Membership

Q: I am interested in membership. Where can I learn more?
Thank you for your interest! VLTA offers a membership for everybody, from company wide memberships to individual memberships. Learn more about the different member types and benefits of membership here.

Member Portal

Q: This is my first time signing into the new Member Portal system. How do I access my account?
The primary account holder (company executive or designated representative for company) must log in to the Member Portal first. If you are the primary account holder, follow directions in the question below. If you are not the primary account holder, please contact the primary account holder at your organization to add you to your company's profile. Directions to add new employees to your account can be found below.

Q: I am a current member. How do I access my account?
If you know your username and password please click here to login. If you do not know your username and password you can retrieve that information by clicking here and entering the email address that was used to sign up for your account. 

Q: How do I update my profile?
To update your profile, click on "My Profile" in the member portal menu. Review your information, make changes as necessary, and click on the "Save Changes" button to update your profile. 

Please note: All "required" fields must be filled out prior to updating your profile otherwise changes will not be saved.

Q. How do I add my profile to the VLTA online member directory?
In order to add your member profile to appear in the online member directory, please use the following steps:
  • Click here to login to your member account
  • Click on "My Member Directory Listing" in the member portal menu on the left hand side (only primary contacts can edit the directory listing for organization based memberships).
  • Click to select your category(s) from the "Directory Categories" section

Please Note: In order for your profile to appear in the online member directory a directory category must be selected.

Under the "Directory Display Options" section, click to select each contact information field you wish to have displayed in the online member directory
Click on the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page when finished.

Q: How do I add new employees to the company's membership?
To add new employees to your company's existing membership with VLTA, click on "My Colleagues" in the member portal menu. If you have questions regarding this please contact VLTA staff at 800-564-8582.

Q: How do I delete or change an employees profile?
A: If you are the Primary or Affiliate contact for the Organization, you can manage employee profiles under "My Colleagues" in the member portal menu. Select the individual you wish to change or delete from the "Review/Modify a Contact" dropdown menu. Once their profile loads, make changes as necessary and select "Save Changes" to update their profile or select "Delete Contact" and "Save Changes" to delete the contact.

Q: How can I renew my membership online?
A: You can renew your company's membership or your individual membership with VLTA by selecting "Membership Renewal" in the member portal menu. To pay for membership dues by credit card, select "Register & Pay Online".

Username & Password Assistance

Q: I do not know my username and password.
If you are a current member of VLTA you can retrieve your username and a temporary password via email by clicking here and entering the email address that was used to sign up for your account.

Q: I don't know the email address that was used to sign up for my account
If you attempt to retrieve your credentials and your email does not match what we have on file please contact the VLTA office by calling 800-564-8582 or submit your question to membership@vlta.org.

Q: I received an email containing my username and a temporary password, what next?
Please proceed to the login page and type in your username and temporary password.

Q: I am having trouble accessing my account with the username and temporary password that was sent to me.
We recommend that you type the username and password that was provided via email. If you copy and paste the selection into the username and password fields, sometimes you are copying and pasting an extra "space" which the system will not recognize. 

Q: I pressed the "Retrieve Username and Password" button more than once, will I get more than one email? 
You can retrieve your username and a temporary password as many times as you wish but the system will send you additional emails. Note that the most recent email you've received will contain the temporary password that will allow you to access your account. 

Event Registration

Q: How do I register for an event?
Click here to log in to your profile. Next, visit the Bookmark section on the right-hand side of your Profile page and click Events & Registrations. This will take you to the Event Calendar. Click on the event for more details and to complete your registration. 

Title Insurance Licensing

Q: How can I sign up for the Title Insurance Licensing Class?
Visit www.pathlms.com/vlta/courses/1560. Create a user account, add the course to your cart, and you’re on your way!

Q: I’ve signed up for a membership. Why isn’t the discounted price showing for my course?
It can take up to 3 business days to process your membership application. If you have questions about your membership status, email a request for status update to vlta@vlta.org along with your name & company name to vlta@vlta.org. It typically takes 1-2 days to process the request.

Q: I have questions about the licensing process.
Email vlta@vlta.org with your questions. We’ll answer what we can by email, and call you if it’s complicated!

Q: I have complex questions about licensing and the title insurance industry.
Email vlta@vlta.org and we will direct you to an expert who can help you.

Certification Programs

Q: I am looking for information on my CCE transcript.
You can view your CCE transcripts here. Log in credentials were mailed with your certification letter, but if you need assitance on accessing your account, please email suzanne.campbell@vlta.org and we’ll send you your login information within 2-3 business days.

Q: I would like to learn more about the CCE requirements for my certification.
We are currently updating the CCE Guidebook. Information about CCE requirements will be made available in October 2019.

Q: When does the current biennium end for VCTE & VCTSA?
If you received your VCTE or VCTSA certification prior to June 2019, you must complete 16-hours of certification continuing education (CCE) before the compliance period ends on December 31, 2019 to remain certified. If you have completed another VLTA Certification program or you hold the active Title Insurance License, your CCE requirement is reduced to 8-hours for the VCTE or VCTSA. If you received your VCTE or VCTSA certification after June 2019 you have to complete 16-hours of CCE before the compliance period ends on December 31, 2021.

Q: Is the VCTE course a beginner, intermediate or advanced course?
The course is designed to provide knowledge, skills and procedures necessary to complete a basic title examination. While some topics are at a basic level, others are at an intermediate level. 

Q: Is the VCTSA course a beginner, intermediate or advanced course?
The course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skill and expertise necessary to competently process, close, and post-close a settlement transaction. In addition, the course focuses on escrow, fiduciary, and risk management procedures that must be implemented in the Title Settlement Office of the future. While some topics are at a basic level, others are at an intermediate level. the unit on FIRPTA is particularly challenging. 

Q: Do I have to be licensed in order to attend the VCTSA course?
No; VLTA firmly believes that anyone who feels the VCTSA course will benefit their professional pursuits should take the course.

Q: If I chose not to become licensed, may I act as a Title Settlement Agent if I complete the VCTSA course and pass the exam? 
It depends on your specific situation, however you should consult with an underwriter or the VA Bureau of Insurance for more detailed inforamtion.

Online Education

Q: I’d like to take classes online, but I can’t login.
Email vlta@vlta.org and we’ll send you your login credentials.

Q: How long does it take for my credits to show on my CE transcript?
We file credits on your behalf every 20 days. Please be sure to check your transcript 3 weeks after you have completed a course to ensure your credits have been uploaded.

Q: Where can I find the CLE code for online classes?
The CLE code is available in the description section of the certificate page. If you are unable to locate the number, please email vlta@vlta.org and we can send you the code.

Q: I am an attorney working on my CLE credits. When does the compliance year end?
If you purchased an online class to obtain CLE credit, you must complete the class by midnight on October 31, 2019 to receive credit as this is the end of the VSB course approvalcalendar year.
